Please realize the number of students we can accommodate relates directly to the number of volunteers we have on any given day. Weekends tend to fill up fast. We pre-book Groups Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Mondays and Fridays are often more available throughout the season. *NOTE: All lessons begin and end at the Adaptive Sports Center. Lesson check in, ski/snowboard rentals and adaptive equipment fitting will all take place at the Center. Step 1: Submit a student Application. Please note: an updated form is required each season, as it gives us the information we need to match you with appropriate instructors. We are unable to take reservations without a current participant form on file. Step 2: Call (434) 325-2007 to make a reservation. We are unable to accept reservations by fax or email.

What form of payment do you take?We accept cash, personal checks with proper ID, Visa, MasterCard and American Express What is your cancellation policy?A $25 non-refundable booking fee will be charged for each reservation day confirmed. This will be deducted from your lesson cost when you arrive for your scheduled lesson. If you need to cancel your lesson, please give us as much advance notice as possible. If you do not call to cancel, you will be charged the full amount of the lesson. Note: On any day, the Program Director or the manager has the right to cancel any lesson if, in their opinion, the weather or the student’s condition would create an unreasonable risk. I didn’t call soon enough to get a lesson. Is there a waiting list?Yes. We will take your name and the date you wish to attend. Please feel free to call and check on your status. Do you accept walk-ins?Very occasionally, we will have a last-minute cancellation and can accommodate a walk-in student. However, the best way to insure you get a lesson is to make an advance reservation. How long are the lessons?Morning sessions go from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, and afternoon sessions go from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. Instructors do not stay with students during lunch, so if your child is here all day, be sure someone is here to meet them for lunch. How should I dress?Winter sports take place outdoors, in variable conditions. Warm clothing that you can move around comfortably in is appropriate. Make sure to bring lots of layers, including long underwear, a mid layer of wool or fleece, and a waterproof outer layer. Do not wear jeans or sweatpants. Wear one pair of wool ski socks. Make sure to bring waterproof gloves or mittens, a neck warmer or scarf, and goggles or sunglasses. We do not sell ski apparel, but you can purchase anything you forgot at Freestyle Ski Shop in the Mountain Inn and rental Shop. Also, label everything with your name and contact number in case you misplace anything. Where are you located?Wintergreen Adaptive Sports facility is a self contained building at Wintergreen Resort, Virginia. We are approximately three hours from DC and 2 1/2 hours for Richmond atop the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Click for Directions. Where do I park?There are a limited number of non-ambulatory handicapped parking spaces in parking lot 2 next to the Wintergreen Adaptive Sports building. For ambulatory participants, you will need to park in one of the lots provided by Wintergreen Resort. What time should I arrive on the day of my lesson?If you are signed up for a morning session please arrive around 9:45. For an afternoon session, we recommend that you arrive no later than 1:15. What should I do when I arrive at the Adaptive Sports Center?The first thing you should do is check in with the office manager or a supervisor. You will then be introduced to your lead instructor who will assist you with any equipment needs. (Rental equipment and any adaptive equipment needed, is included in the price of the lesson). What if I’ve never skied/snowboarded before?No worries. WAS introduces people to winter sports every day. We have lots of wonderful and caring volunteers here who will welcome you and get you onto the snow with a minimum of fuss. You are in good company, and we hope that in time, you will become an avid skier/snowboarder! Who will teach the lesson?Our instructors are all volunteers over the age of 16. They have been selected based on their skiing/snowboarding and teaching ability, and been specially trained. Our volunteers have taught for an average of 6 years, so they have plenty of experience. Since they do not get paid for their work, you can be sure that they are doing this because they love to. Can I request a specific instructor?Not all instructors are available on all days. We do our best to make an appropriate match for you, but we can’t always accommodate special requests. What if I have specific instructions or special needs?We collect as much information about you before you arrive; that is the purpose of the Participant Registration Form. If you have special instructions, you can inform us when you make your reservation, or else tell your instructor when you meet them. Can I stay with my child?You may ski or snowboard with your child if you wish, but we find that most children tend to have a better bonding experience with their instructor(s) if their parents are not present. Can I watch my child from inside?You probably won’t be able to see your child from the WAS building. However, we have a comfortable building and wireless internet access, so feel free to make yourself at home while you wait. Or else … get out on the slopes yourself! What if I need lessons for my other children?If you have children that are not disabled, we will do are best to find an instructor to ski with them, but we can’t guarantee that we will have and instructor due to scheduling. Will you rent equipment to me or my other children?Due to insurance reasons and limited supply, we can only rent equipment to our disabled guests. Can I buy lift tickets from you?No, you will need to get tickets at the Wintergreen ticket window. Where can I eat lunch?Wintergreen Resort offers several places to eat. Click here for more info.
